Last year I designed and illustrated a small book of alternative nursery rhymes. Written by Peter Freeland, the book’s purpose was to raise funds to benefit the Friends of Ashdown Forest.
After positive feedback on the book, Peter asked if I would produce a second. Time for a Rhyme is a book of rhyming poetry covering mainly people, animals and plants.
A slightly bigger book than the first, I produced 20 illustrations. Each is a relief print/digital hybrid. The drawn line work of the illustration is hand-carved in Japanese vinyl. A black print is taken from the vinyl and scanned. The colour work is added directly in Indesign, the software used to lay out the pages ready for printing.
I also managed the printing process and bought the print on Peter’s behalf.
